Xylene is a technical grade liquid and presents itself as clear and colorless. It is an aromatic solvent that is insoluble in water. It has a medium boiling point and has a slower evaporation rate than toluene and thus has a longer drying time. The evaporation rate is 3.2 times as slow as toluene. Xylene has key uses in alkyd resins, cleaning fluids, enamels, lacquers, paint solvents and strippers, and rubber cement.
