High Performance Polyalkylene Glycol

UCON fluids and lubricants from Dow represent a versatile line of high-performance synthetic products based on polyalkylene glycols (PAGs). These PAG-based fluids offer numerous advantages over conventional petroleum-based oils and lubricants. A key strength is their ability to be tailored and controlled in formulations to optimize performance across a wide range of applications and operating conditions.

UCON fluids demonstrate outstanding lubricity, load-carrying capacity, anti-wear properties, and low coefficients of friction. This makes them ideal for formulating gear oils, compressor lubricants, high-temperature lubricants for harsh environments, and more. Their polarity also allows for excellent friction control.

A primary advantage of UCON fluids is their viscosity control capabilities. They are commercially available in viscosities ranging from just 12 up to over 65,000 centistokes at 40°C. This broad viscosity range allows formulators to precisely meet viscosity requirements for hydraulic fluids, lubricants, quenchants, metalworking fluids, and more. UCON fluids also exhibit superior viscosity indices and shear-stable viscosities compared to mineral oils.

Another key benefit is their exceptional oxidative stability, even at high temperatures, contributing to extended service life as hydraulic fluids, lubricants, and heat transfer media. UCON fluids have high thermal conductivity and generally higher flash/fire points than petroleum oils, providing a greater safety margin.

UCON hydrolubes and hydraulic fluids leverage the products' lubricity, low-temperature performance, and high viscosity indices for reliabile hydraulic systems. Coating fluids provide lubricating, protective coatings during brake component assembly. Metalworking fluids concentrate the lubricant at the tool-workpiece interface.

As heat transfer fluids, UCON products avoid sludge/carbon buildup issues seen with mineral oils. Their stability also suits gas turbine formulations to reduce varnish. Quenchants like UCON Quenchant A deliver flexibility in quench severity for heat treating metals.

Lubricant formulations are a major use, from the fully-formulated UCONALL gear oils to high-temperature lubricants harnessing UCON's oxidative resistance. Food-grade UCON lubricants meet FDA regulations while outperforming conventional food-grade oils. In the marine industry, select UCON lubricants provide environmental benefits.
